Discrimination is a learned behavior and unfortunately it permeates our society at large. Does this discrimination seep into our technologies? Does it seep into our code? Our algorithms? I say that it does! Why wouldn’t it – People write algorithms. It will take all of us to combat and stand up against bias – Even in our technology. It’s not enough to dismiss it and wish the victim of such behavior a happy new year and wishful hopes – we must all take an active stand when we see others being disenfranchised, disrespected and disadvantaged. Sacrifice is needed. How much are we willing to sacrifice to make this society a better place for all of us to live.
